4 months ago I underwent a sigmoid colectomy. Just over 6 inches of my colon was removed including a 4.3 cm tumor. At the site of the tumor, my colon was 75% blocked.
Today, I ran a mile. I will not be winning a track meet anytime soon, but I am so grateful for the progress I have made.
I still walk a bit slower than usual, especially if I have been sitting for an extended amount of time. I use a shower chair because it is safer. I use the handrail if I am walking up or down stairs. If I over eat, my body lets me know. If I do not maintain sufficient hydration, my body lets me know. There are still occasional, though rare, sharp pains.
I was told following the surgery it would take 12 weeks to 12 months for my body to fully correct itself. I am making great progress. I am in the gym and on the track on a regular basis.
A reminder of what I was told on March 8th by my oncologist: I had Stage 1 Colorectal Cancer and at this time I appear to be cancer free. My next CT scan will be in late August preceding my next oncologist’s appointment in early September.

2 Pray for the medical personnel I come in contact with: primary care physician, oncologist, nurses, lab techs, front desk
3 Pray for continued progress as I physically recover and regain my strength and endurance
4 Pray I am disciplined and make healthy lifestyle choices
